Should we not better "ask" the http://eu.wiley.com/WileyCDA/Section/id-350310.html (eu.Wiley.com) for our concept ?
"Wikis for Dummies" has been published which is a geeral book about wikis authored by Peter Thoeny (creator of Twiki) but not "Wikdiot For Dummies". However, everyone should be aware that we can't just publish a title like that without infringing copyright of the title, nor can we pitch the idea directly to the publishers of the "..for Dunmies" series, John Wiley as they don't accept unsolicitied ideas. It has to go through publishing agents.

So… I guess we will need to come up with alternate names. Do you think leaving the word "dummies" in it be fine? For example, something like "The Dummies Guide to Wikidot".

No, I doubt that would be legally acceptable in a published work. If this is the route that people wish to go down, i.e. to publiish a book in the "..for Dummies" series, then we (I) can make approaches over the next few months to publishing agents once the bones of the book are written. Other alternatives would be to publish it ourselves with a completely different style of title. Whichever approach is taken will require a huge amount of work.
This was only an off-the-cuff idea!

Yes, Rob, my thinking goes in the same direction… I have some literatur-agent books red for such a project…( non fiction content).
We need first a CONCEPT of the book-project and some proposal chapters in the "manusikript" to show what the style and content is
Than we need a good agent to find a publisher (in german "Verlag") who is ready to print and distribute such book over the world - which is the real hard step (to find a publisher) and should be done by people with grat conections ( literatur-agents9.
Than - after signing a contract with a publisher - we need to fullfill all the rest of waiting chapters…
But first we need a concept for such book.
@Kenneth: "I was thinking along the lines of an online guide".
This is not good for a publishing book project. Publishers do not like more than 2-4 chapters online…
And Yes, my first idea was the "real" book when I saw the cover from Rob.
@Rob: it was clear for me that this was ( a very good !) "enpowering kick" to start with such an answer for the "beginners" - to make them the start easier.
I think really for a long time of such a book for the non technical people.
Example: the niece of my wife have no idea how html or browser works , but have startet a wonderfull genealogy-wiki for her family back to 1500 AD with more than 8000 people - of course a private one, but will later open the generations back until -4 ( for legal reasons).
I think - we need mainly such examples to tell the people WHY a wiki is a good idea for them. and not so much technical support - who can edit the own wiki can have a look abnd find in the online guides…(handbook?)
And: - as Rob has written -to write a book is a big project and a lot of work. I think - could be this will end at xmas next year…
but this is only dreaming….
Service is my success. My webtips:www.blender.org (Open source), Wikidot-Handbook.

Haha… okay. Well, I never really considered this project's work to be published. Rather, I was thinking along the lines of an online guide.

People these days do not like reading for long, or search for too long to get the information they need.
They rather want action and fast results, as well as an INSTANT CURE, as I can see in my practice and treatments!
Pre-chewed and 1/2 digested would be best !
